Foreign Language

The French ab initio course has been designed as an introductory-level course requiring little or no prior subject knowledge.

One of the main objectives of the course is to impart an intercultural understanding in students. First, of their own culture and secondly of the cultures and societies where French is spoken as an official and/or primary language.

Through this inter-cultural understanding, students are expected to develop many of the Learner Profile Attributes (LPAs), like Inquirer, Knowledgeable, Communicator, Open-Minded, Balanced, and Principled.

Along with these elements, the French ab initio class is, ultimately, a language class. Students will learn the basics of French grammar and build a practical and applicable vocabulary in order to develop basic proficiency in everyday communication through various activities and group work in the class as well as being encouraged to try to use French outside the classroom.
