Beaconhouse Defence Campus Karachi has been in the forefront in adopting progressive contemporary means of imparting education. Presently, Defence Campus is at the candidate school level but we are confident of advancing to becoming the IB world school. DP Coordinator- Ms. Nazia Adeel's message:

Beaconhouse School system has always been a pioneer school in taking initiatives in terms of promoting quality Education amongst masses in Pakistan. We are proud once again to announce the launch of five IB DP schools across the country, Defence Campus Karachi being one of them.

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme is an assessed programme for student aged 16-19 years of age, which is not only accepted by International universities across the globe, but it is also recognized and preferred by local, both private and state universities in Pakistan. Students will now have the option of choosing between IB DP and other International programmes that are offered in Pakistan and the local Education system, after their O Level or Matric.

I am extremely impressed by the diversity they offer in terms of choosing subjects, where student will have the opportunity to study English Language & Literature, a foreign language ( French), Individuals and societies, Sciences, Art and Mathematics. It is indeed all about diversity these days especially when it comes to applying to foreign and top local universities. The Core requirements of this programme is another thing that got me fall for this programme, which is the CAS ( creativity, Activity and service), TOK (Theory of knowledge) and EE ( Extended Essay). This would definitely give our students the chance to give back to the community , develop their personalities in a holistic manner, which will ensure that our students turn out to be excellent human beings apart from receiving the highest academic achievements and accolades.

Assessment:

DP assessment procedures measure the extent to which students have mastered advanced academic skills in fulfilling these goals, for example:

  • analysing and presenting information
  • evaluating and constructing arguments
  • solving problems creatively.

Basic skills are also assessed, including:

  • retaining knowledge
  • understanding key concepts
  • applying standard methods. "

Both Internal and external Assessments are carried out in DP to ensure all skills and concepts acquired in the diploma programme's two years are assessed in the best possible way.

External Assessment:

Defence Campus is a May/June session Diploma Programme. External assessment/exam is held at the end of two years in May.

Internal Assessment:

Students are assessed internally throughout the two academic years following a detailed assessment calendar. The internal assessments vary from subject to subject and follow strict guidelines from IB to maintain standards.  They include from Individual Orals to Individual Investigations to investigations.

Reporting:

Students will be receiving results, reports, teachers feedback, deadline alerts, regularly through 'ManageBac' which is an integrated information system for International Education, which is used by 80% of IB schools across the world for the purpose of planning, assessment and reporting. Parents will have their separate portals where they can access their child's progress throughout the two years of their Diploma.

CAS at Beaconhouse Defence Campus:

  • Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS) is at the heart of the Diploma Programme. It is one of the essential and mandatory elements in every student's Diploma Programme experience. It involves students in a range of activities alongside their academic studies throughout the Diploma Programme. As CAS is the shining star of the Diploma Programme, we at Beconhouse will be giving it all its due credence. The programme is carefully structured to provide students with diverse , exciting and relevant experiences that will help develop them as holistic and well-rounded individuals who also contribute to their communities with responsibility. It will contribute in developing their interpersonal skills, demonstrate the IB Learner Profile in their daily lives and their interaction with the community at large.CAS will give them a reprieve from the academic rigor and provide them with a outlet to fulfill their passions and enhance their personalities at the same time. Every student has their own starting point so the CAS can be individualized in order to cater to their perspectives and their goals keeping in mind the various backgrounds they come from.
  • The three strands of CAS, which are often interwoven with particular activities, are characterized as follows.
  • Creativity: arts, and other experiences that involve creative thinking.
  • Activity: physical exertion contributing to a healthy lifestyle, complementing academic work elsewhere in the Diploma Programme.
  • Service: an unpaid and voluntary exchange that has a learning benefit for the student. The rights, dignity and autonomy of all those involved are respected.
